Eles s\u00e3o parecidos e quase sempre surgem em contextos similares; isso ocorre porque ambos s\u00e3o <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">modal verbs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (verbos modais) e servem para expressar possibilidade, mas n\u00e3o s\u00e3o 100% intercambi\u00e1veis. A boa not\u00edcia \u00e9 que a diferen\u00e7a entre eles n\u00e3o \u00e9 t\u00e3o complicada, e entender isso vai deixar seu ingl\u00eas mais natural.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De forma geral, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> costuma indicar possibilidade no presente ou futuro, enquanto <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">might<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pode indicar possibilidade tamb\u00e9m no presente, mas \u00e9 muito usado para falar de situa\u00e7\u00f5es no passado ou para dar um tom mais hipot\u00e9tico a frase. (<\/i><\/b><b>Talvez a gente o veja amanh\u00e3.)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Em outro contexto, ele tamb\u00e9m pode ser usado para pedir ou dar permiss\u00e3o, nesse caso funcionando como uma alternativa mais formal a \u201cCan I?\u201d. A diferen\u00e7a entre os dois est\u00e1 no grau de polidez: enquanto \u2018Can\u2019 \u00e9 mais direto e comum na fala cotidiana, \u2018May\u2019 transmite educa\u00e7\u00e3o e formalidade, sendo mais apropriado em contextos profissionais ou quando se deseja demonstrar respeito.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b><i>May I borrow your book? Outro uso importante \u00e9 o seu negativo.
